Our One Minute Speech

Starting with Kindergarten and working up to 8th grade, we go from classroom to classroom talking about the Harvest Of The Month coming the next day. In the beginning, not many people took part in Harvest Of The Month, or H.O.M. , but many posters and hard work later, the line now goes down the hall, with the last H.O.M. serving 66 students. Using their motivation as our inspiration, we increase good by serving local food in our cafeteria and supporting CSA’s, which we calculated can be as close as 20 miles away and only using 4 gallons of gas. By decreasing bad, we use leatche instead of chemical fertilizers in our garden, and reducing air pollution from transporting foods, which we calculated can be as far as 2,850 miles away, and using 570 gallons of gas. That a difference of 2,830 miles and 566 gallons of gas wasted and polluted into the air.
But there are still unlocal foods in our cafeteria, like chocolate milk and Uncrustables. We plan to improve by removing items like these. We’ve used connection circles to help improve our view on being a locavore, but we changed it in a creative way and made a connection pear.
